White sand, palms and turquoise water at Dream Beach, Nusa Lembongan

Dream Beach

Lembongan’s prettiest cove

Dream Beach is a short crescent of pale sand tucked between limestone headlands on Lembongan’s south-west coast. The water shades from turquoise to deep blue, the cliffs are dotted with frangipani and pandanus, and in the late afternoon the whole bay glows. It is the postcard image of the island.

It is also an exposed, ocean-facing beach. On many days there are strong waves and rip currents, and lifeguard cover is limited or absent. Enjoy it from the sand, from one of the cafés above it or from the clifftop pool of Dream Beach Huts — and only swim when it is genuinely calm.

Top things to do at Dream Beach

Spend a lazy afternoon on the sand

Rent a lounger, order a coconut and watch the surf. The beach faces south-west, so it stays sunny until late afternoon. It is liveliest between 11 am and 3 pm, when the day-trip groups pass through.

Walk on to Devil’s Tear

A path over the rocks at the southern end leads in five minutes to Devil’s Tear. Time it for sunset.

See it on a tour from Bali

If you only have one day, several day trips from Bali include Dream Beach alongside the Yellow Bridge and a snorkel stop.

How to get to Dream Beach

  • From Jungutbatu: about 4 km by scooter or buggy, through Lembongan village; the road ends at a small car park above the beach.
  • From Mushroom Bay: about 2 km — a few minutes by scooter.
  • On foot: from Sunset Beach or Devil’s Tear along the coast path.

Insider tips

  • Check conditions before swimming. Red flags, big shore-break or water rushing sideways along the beach all mean stay out.
  • Go early in the morning to have the beach almost to yourself.
  • Bring cash for sunbeds, drinks and parking — some cafés do not take cards.
  • Reef shoes help on the rocks at either end.
